Service is in my blood. Both of my parents served in the United States Army. My father served on active duty at Fort Hood and in the Texas Army National Guard from 1979 to 2014, while my mother served from 1979 to 1989 before transitioning to a career as a cardiovascular specialist in Central Texas.After graduating from Leander High School in 1998, I chose to follow in my parents' footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Army. I served as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg and later as a LAN Systems Administrator at the Defense Intelligence Agency in the Pentagon. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, I was proud to play a key role in our national security during one of our country's most pivotal moments.<h3>Protecting What Matters Most</h3>Since leaving the military, I have built a career in cybersecurity. Today, I am a Cybersecurity Architect at Dell Technologies, where I lead initiatives to secure data, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure compliance with privacy laws. Whether I am defending our nation in uniform or defending our technological infrastructure in the private sector, my mission has always remained the same: protect what matters most.Beyond my professional life, I’ve stayed active in my community and the democratic process:<ul><li>Democratic Precinct Chair: Served in Tarrant County.</li><li>Human Relations Committee: Worked to foster community equity.</li><li>2008 Presidential Delegate: Represented our community during President Obama’s campaign.</li></ul><h3>A Leader Who Listens</h3>Today, I live in Georgetown, Texas, with my wife, Toni. AI Without Guardrails Is a Risk Texans Did Not Agree ToAs a veteran and a cybersecurity architect, my job has always been to think ahead. To ask not just “can we build it,” but “what happens when it fails.”Right now, artificial intelligence is moving faster than our laws, our infrastructure planning, and our public oversight. And Texans are already paying the price.Across Central Texas, large-scale data centers are expanding rapidly to support AI and cloud computing. These facilities bring real economic activity, but without clear rules, they also bring real risks to our power grid, our water systems, and our national security.1. Infrastructure Strain Without Public AccountabilityAI data centers are extremely energy-intensive. They place constant, high-demand loads on the electric grid and often require significant water use for cooling, especially in traditional designs.• What this means for families: When large industrial users are added to an already stressed grid, the costs and reliability risks are often passed down to ratepayers, not absorbed by the corporations benefiting from the growth.• What needs to change: We need transparency and standards. If companies are going to receive public incentives or federal support, they should be required to demonstrate energy efficiency, responsible water usage, and grid resilience planning that does not shift risk onto working families or rural communities.This is not anti-technology. It is pro-responsibility.2. Security Cannot Be an AfterthoughtEvery expansion of digital infrastructure increases the attack surface of our critical systems. Utilities, data centers, and cloud-connected operations are already frequent targets for ransomware, espionage, and disruption.With Fort Hood in our district and critical infrastructure nearby, Central Texas is not just an economic hub. It is a national security environment.• The reality: Many cybersecurity standards for civilian infrastructure are voluntary, outdated, or inconsistently enforced.• What leadership looks like: Congress needs people who understand how these systems actually work, who can strengthen baseline cybersecurity requirements for critical infrastructure without stifling innovation or dumping unfunded mandates on local providers.We regulate aviation so people trust flying.We regulate food so families trust what they eat.Smart, modern rules for AI and digital infrastructure are about trust, not fear.We can embrace innovation while protecting our communities. What we cannot afford is leadership that treats AI like a talking point instead of a responsibility.
